Message from the Executive Secretary

Message from the Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), Dr. Iyela Ajayi

It is my honor and privilege to serve as the Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC). As we continue to strengthen and transform senior secondary education in Nigeria, I am deeply committed to ensuring that this critical stage of learning becomes a driving force for national development and global competitiveness.

Senior secondary education holds a unique and strategic position in our educational framework, acting as the bridge between foundational learning and higher education or the workforce. It is at this stage that we must equip students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for meaningful contributions to society, whether as entrepreneurs, innovators, or leaders in science, technology, and other critical sectors.

Since my assumption of office, I have prioritized initiatives that address key challenges in this sector. We are working diligently to:

  • Enhance curriculum delivery, ensuring alignment with global best practices and the needs of a rapidly changing world.
  • Invest in infrastructure development, bridging gaps in learning environments to create conducive spaces for academic excellence.
  • Promote teacher development, providing educators with the training and resources needed to deliver high-quality education.
  • Support innovation and entrepreneurship, empowering students to become creators of solutions to local and global challenges.

The NSSEC operates with a clear mandate to regulate and uplift senior secondary education in Nigeria, ensuring that no child is left behind. Through collaboration with stakeholders, including government bodies, educators, parents, and development partners, we are building an education system that prepares our students for the demands of the 21st century.

As we look to the future, I invite all stakeholders to join hands with NSSEC in this transformative journey. Together, we can empower our youth, strengthen our nation, and ensure that senior secondary education becomes a beacon of hope, progress, and opportunity for all.

Thank you for your continued support.

Dr. Iyela Ajayi
