Vision 

To coordinate senior secondary education in Nigeria and to ensure quality education delivery. 

Structure of the Department

Mandate

1. Monitor and evaluate reform in the senior secondary education sub-sector including progress towards attaining sustainable development goals (SDGs) and Education 2030
2. Training of senior secondary school teachers on records keeping in schools  
3. Track teachers recruitment and movement and movement in line with the demands of commonwealth protocol 
4. Facilitate and promote effective linkage between NSSEC and the following parastatals UBEC, NECO, NABTEB and WAEC 
5. Collaborate and liaise with UNICEF, USAID and other international Development partners (DP) on matters affecting senior secondary education in Nigeria
6. Formulate/initiate and ensure implementation of policies in state and private senior secondary schools in collaboration with state ministries of education 
7. Deal with professional education association matters specifically, National Association of proprietors of private schools (NAPPS) 
8. Monitor infrastructural facilities in schools and ensure compliance with the minimum approved guidelines 
9. Deal with correspondence from members of the public on matters affecting state and private secondary schools in Nigeria.
